Senator Shehu Sani, socio-political activist, and former Senator who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone at the red chamber of the National Assembly (2015-2019), is claiming that he is age mates with Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leader of the ruling party of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who is also known as Jagaban.

Senator Shehu Sani who in a social media post on Thursday, comically registered his opinion on the ongoing controversies surrounding the age of Chief Bola Tinubu, the Jagaban of Lagos, stated that Jagaban is not as old as Nigerians portray him.

The Senator who recently defected to the major opposition party of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had said this in a caption of a photo he posted of Jagaban and himself when he was still a card-carrying member of the ruling party of the APC.
He then added that Jagaban and himself are age mates.

He said: “Jagaban is not as old as you portray him. We are both young guys and age mates,” he said.

After the post by the Senator on Thursday 20th January 2022, we went on to do a little research about his age, and found out that Shehu Sani was merely trolling Tinubu whose age has been a topic of debate in the mainstream media and social media, since he declared his intention to run for the seat of the President come 2023.

While Senator Shehu Sani’s age according to our findings from Wikipedia is 54 (born October 29th 1967), that of Jagaban or Tinubu was put at 69 (born 29 March 1952) by the same Wikipedia.

The findings clearly show that there is a 15-years age gap between Jagaban and Shehu Sani, so there is no way they are age mates as comically put by the Senator.

What Shehu Sani Have Said About Jagaban In The Past?

The Senator speaking about his relationship with Tinubu in a with Sunday Aborisade, had said Jagaban:

“…He is a very good friend. We have never had any conflict. I appreciate how we worked together during the struggle for June 12. We were always together whenever the late Dr Beko Ransome-Kuti, Dr Frederick Fasehun, and I wanted to see the late M.K.O. Abiola. He is an ideological soul mate only that now, I am in the Peoples Redemption Party and he is in the APC,” he said.

On Tinubu’s Presidential Ambition?

Reacting to Tinubu’s Presidential ambition and his visit to President Muhammadu Buhari, Shehu Sani in a tweet on his verified Twitter handle, stated that Jagaban is an optimist who still believes that the chief priest (probably Buhai) can cause the sun to rise from the west.

“This is really a serious one indeed. But on the other hand, it is very good for someone to be optimistic while doing things. But we have to wait till 2023, so as to know whether Bola Tinubu has what it takes to rule Nigeria or not,” he said.
