The New York attack occurred around 11 p.m. in the area of Morningside Park in upper Manhattan, according to the NYPD.

The victim who has died is a 30-year-old student at Columbia University. Police say he was stabbed in the stomach while he was walking near 123rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

The second victim, a 27-year-old tourist, was stabbed in the torso near 110th Street and Cathedral Parkway. He’s in stable condition, police said.

The Victim In The New York Attack Was Studying At Columbia University

In separate statements, University President Lee Bollinger confirmed the “tragic loss” of Davide Giri, the Italian student who was killed in the attack and a student at Columbia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science.

For its part, the Italian Foreign Ministry confirmed: “a serial knife attack in which an Italian was killed and another wounded”.

The attacker arrested

The alleged assailant, a 25-year-old man according to police, was arrested shortly after the second attack, north of Central Park, when he was threatening a third man, 29, with a knife.

The Daily News , which published the photos of the deceased Italian and his suspected killer on Friday, described the assailant as a member of a gang in New York’s Queens neighbourhood, who had already served four years in prison. and has been arrested multiple times for a series of violence.
