Anambra Guber Election: Party Candidates Sign Peace Deal

The major governorship candidates for the forthcoming Anambra Guber election on Thursday, signed a Peace Accord in Awka the state capital.

The Peace Accord which is coming a day after the stakeholders meeting with the chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), and the Inspector General of Police, and other security agencies for the November 6th Anambra Guber election, was signed with a move to achieve a peaceful, free fair and credible election.

According to the report by the Anambra State Broadcasting Service (ABS), the party candidates of different political parties involved in the election, were made to sign a peace agreement which means that none of them shall instigate violence through any means on the election day.

The report stated that the peace treaty signed on Thursday 4th November 2021, by all the candidates is also to ensure the safety of electorates before, during and after the election.

The Peace Accord under the Chairmanship of the former Head of State, General Abdulsalmi Abubaker and Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah was for the candidates to send a message of peace to their supporters and encourage them to be law-abiding citizens on the election day.

Professor Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Valentine Ozigbo of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Andy Ubah of the APC, Obiora Okonkwo of the Zenith Labour Party, among others signed the peace treaty and promised to abide by the rules and peace agreement reached today.

The event held at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women Development Center Awka attracted major stakeholders in the November 6th Anambra governorship election.
