Agitation: Tight Security In Abuja Ahead Of Kanu's Trial

A few hours before the trial of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu begins, over his agitation for a Biafran state, the Federal Government on Sunday, deployed some security operatives in and around the Court premises where the trial will hold on Monday.

Areas such as the Central Business District and Maitama have witnessed a heavy security presence since on Sunday, with the Police asking those especially IPOB members to stay clear of these areas for security reasons.

The Biafran agitation which had gone on for years, and attracted a lot of attention both within and outside the country, will on Monday see its self proclaimed leader Nnamdi Kanu brought back to court to continue his trial.

A message circulating around the social media on Sunday about the resumed trial of Nnamdi Kanu had read: “NB Security FCT: All roads leading to the Federal H/Court, Central Area, will be blocked tomorrow 26/07/21. This follows the commencement of the trial of proscribed IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Employees are advised to seek alternative routes, exercise caution.”

The security operatives who are on the ground around the court premises have been stationed amidst the threat by IPOB members that they would besiege the court as the trial begins.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, had earlier warned members of the IPOB not to show up at the Court hearing on Monday.

The IPOB leader is standing trial before the Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
