Ebube Agu: South-East Governors Float Security Outfit

South-East governors have floated a regional security outfit they have named ‘Ebube agu’, as it comes after an emergency security meeting on Sunday.

The new security outfit Ebube agu unlike the Eastern Security Network (ESN) established by Nnamdi Kanu, Ebube agu has the backing of the Government through the Inspector General of the Nigerian Police Force.

The security outfit was pronounced by Governors of the South-East region, immediately after the maiden edition of the region’s security summit held behind closed doors at the Imo State Government House, Owerri.

Presenting a communiquè on behalf of the forum, Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Dave Umahi who was flanked by Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the host Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, and his Abia State counterpart, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, condemned terrorism, banditry, burning of police stations and other violent attacks across the country and South East region in particular.

While stating that the joint security outfit will have its headquarters in Enugu, the summit emphasized that they are with the federal government on security measures introduced in the region, canvassing for unity among the political leadership in the region.

While calling on the federal government to ensure justice to the victims, by bringing the murderers to face the law, they requested for a stoppage to the influx of Inspector General monitoring units into the region, but allow the Commissioners to make such referrals.

According to the forum, relevant stakeholders in the region should be galvanized to provide all necessary support to ensure greater success in the fight against insecurity, asking for a comprehensive list of the needs of security agencies for the immediate provision by the federal government and the region.

On the rising security threat across the country and the region, they emphasized that open grazing has been banned, calling on security agencies to enforce it.

The summit will hold every quarter.
Also in attendance were President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor, as well as heads of security agencies in the region.
