Nigerians are reacting to the tweet made by Senator Ben Murray-Bruce on Saturday, where he was calling on the Federal Government to impose a ban on combustion engines in favour of electric cars. He wants the country to phase out petro engines on or before year 2035.

The one-time Bayelsa East Federal Constituency Senator (2015-2019), and the Ex-Director-General of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), and the founder of Silverbird group, who is a well-known advocate for the electric cars (common sense advocate), while reminding Nigerians of the need of electric cars and climate change, posted a photo of an electric car he intends to buy.

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce taking to his official social media handle on Saturday 10th April 2021, posted the photo of an electric car he said he has made a deposit on, and that by 2022, he will be a proud owner of one. He tweeted saying:

“In practising what I preach, I recently put a deposit on this yet to be manufactured Lucid Electric Car. Delivery is early next year. It’s capable of more miles per charge than a Tesla. An amazing machine. Nigeria should ban all combustion Engine cars by 2035. #ClimateAction,” he added.

A few minutes after making the post and with that caption, Nigerians trooped to his page to remind him of something, and here are some of those:

@Henzo_said_so:
Sir in as much you just want to make common sense all the time. Consider the following; 1.) We can’t afford electric cars. 2.) We don’t have steady power supply to charge the cars 3.) If one street decides to charge all their cars, their transformer will blow. 4.) Rest abeg.

@TMbanche
I am an advocate of EV but saying Nigeria should ban Gasoline cars iñ the future is not realistic enough, how many Nigerians can afford EV? Most of EVs are brand new while majority of our population don’t have the financial nerve to afford brand new cars. Let the compete period.

@JideAkintunde1
Do u think even an average Nigerian can afford that electric car also coupled with the fact he or she will have to deal with the issue of intermittent power supply.I don’t think we Nigerians are ripe for this with the way our economy is being run.

@Princeclassik
After making billions and receiving millions as salary from OIL money you now wish and want it crashed. I pray God will make plans on how hell shall be for Nigerian politicians Theirs should be 10x more to other side of hell because their wickedness can never be match anywhere
