Five road accident victims are reported to have been hospitalized in Awka, Anambra State capital, after they were struck by a hit and run driver on Thursday.
According to reports from the Anambra State capital, the accident happened at the popular Dr Alex Ekwueme’s Square Crossroad. Aside from the injured five persons, about three hundred blocks worth thousands of naira were destroyed.
According to an eyewitness, the accident involved a private SUV (the hit and run driver) and a heavy-duty vehicle. The eyewitness said that the accident was caused by reckless driving on the part of the hit and run driver, who was at high speed to overtake the driver of a heavy-duty vehicle heading to the Federal Secretariat road.
The eyewitness, a trader, whose goods were also destroyed at the scene of the accident, regretted that all of her good were lost to the incident.
The driver of the heavy-duty vehicle loaded with blocks escaped alive with bruises, while the driver is yet to be apprehended by the Police as of the time of this report.
The victims of the accident who sustained injuries have been taken to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.
