Piers Morgan quits ‘The Good Morning Britain’ show on ITV, after continued backlash over his racist comments and tweets towards Meghan Markle.
The latest news is coming just a day after he had tweeted on his official Twitter handle with over 7million followers, bragging about being untouchable and cannot be sacked. He said people have called for his sacking in the past and have failed and this was also likely to fail, he had said.
Piers Morgan quits the show to avoid being sacked by the management, after it was reported that over more than 41,000 people complained to U.K. media regulator Ofcom about his conduct surrounding Meghan Markle on ITV.
Ofcom has since launched an investigation into the show, following his comments about ‘not believing Meghan’ when she told Oprah Winfrey she had previously felt suicidal. The statement read: ‘Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ‘ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.’
Piers has been under fire since Monday’s episode where he condemned Meghan’s comments in her and Prince Harry’s bombshell interview with Oprah. During the chat, Meghan claimed that a senior member of the Royal family ‘expressed concern’ over baby Archie’s skin colour while she was pregnant, and said that the pressure of being in the family left her suicidal.
Discussing the revelations, Piers said that he ‘didn’t believe a word that she said. He had tweeted this, calling Meghan a ‘Pinocchio Princess’.
“Lots of people on here want me fired for expressing my opinion on the Pinocchio Princess. If you want to join them, there are various petitions still doing the rounds from the last few times you’ve all tried, and failed, to have me fired for saying what I think,” he said.
