Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, has condemned in strong terms, the gruesome killing of Motorcyclist by a Policeman at Igboukwu in Anambra State.

Governor Willia Obiano while reacting to the sad news, took to his social media handle on Thursday 17th December 2020, to announce to the people of Anambra and residents that the Police officer responsible has been taken into custody. He said:

Government will assist the family of the deceased and provide them with the necessary emotional and financial support. It’s always painful to lose a loved one in such circumstances. I am directly in touch with the Police authorities and I am being briefed of the situation.

Ndi Anambra, burning of police stations, vehicles and destruction of property is not the way to resolve this. Anambra has been calm and peaceful and we want our people to remain calm as justice must be surely served,” he added.

According to reports on Wednesday, the sad incident of the motorcyclist and the Policeman happened on Tuesday night. The incident led to the razing of the police station in the community by an angry mob.
A source said the motorcyclist was killed by the policeman when he resisted an attempt by them to extort him.

The protesting youths blocked the major roads, thereby disrupting the Nkwo market.
The wife of the late motorcyclist was said to have just given birth and the deceased was also planning the burial of his late father.
