Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has signed a new two-year contract to remain at the club till 2023. This latest news puts an end to speculations of him getting sacked or leaving the club for failure to land the UEFA Champions League.

Pep Guardiola before signing a new two-year contract, had just seven months left to run on his contract with Manchester City.

According to the report by Sportsmail Guardiola had approved a contract extension that has taken him up to the 2021-22 season.

That would represent at least six years in charge of City – considerably longer than had been expected when the former Barcelona manager arrived from Bayern Munich in 2016.

Speaking to the club’s website after they confirmed the deal, Guardiola said:

‘As a manager, I have everything that I need.

‘Of course, all managers depend on results, obviously me as well and we have to win to continue.

‘I saw many times in the bad moments how the people here support me.

‘Of course, Ferran [Soriano] and Txiki [Begiristain], but especially Khaldoon, our chairman, was the main reason I decided to continue.

‘Still we have the feeling that there is unfinished business and still there is something to do – continue what we have done in the last years.’

City were desperate for the 49-year-old to continue in the job and had afforded him the necessary time to deliberate the decision with his family. That the answer has come in November serves as a significant fillip for planning purposes and eradicates any lingering uncertainty.

Chairman Khaldoon Mubarak added: ‘It is testament to the qualities of the man that Pep Guardiola’s passion and intelligent approach are now woven into the very fabric of the football we play and our culture as Club.

‘Pep’s contract extension is the natural next step in a journey which has evolved over many years,” he said.
