Governor Sanwo-Olu has paid a visit to the Opebi crash site, where it was reported that a Bell Helicopter 206B3, belonging to Quorum Aviation Ltd crashed into two buildings, killing two people, with a third person badly injured.
The Governor’s visit to the Opebi crash site was for an on-the-spot assessment, and to sympathize with the families of the victims.
During his visit on Saturday 29th August 2020, the Governor met with the residents of the buildings and joined them in thanking God for his abiding grace. He said:
“I have ordered an immediate integrity test conduct on both of the affected buildings to know the level of impact.
We are taking on the responsibility of renovations and will provide all the necessary support to cushion the effects of this tragic incident,” he said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s visit comes just a day after he released a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Gboyega Akosile, commiserating with families, friends and associates of the victims of the unfortunate Ikeja helicopter crash on Friday.
In his message on Friday, the Governor promised that his Government would work with all the relevant Federal Government agencies to unravel the remote and immediate cause of the Ikeja Helicopter crash, so as to prevent a re-occurrence in the future.
The Governor advised residents of Opebi and its surrounding to go about their business peacefully saying:
“There is nothing to fear as men and officers of the State emergency services were promptly deployed to the scene of the crash and they had brought everything under control. The environment is also safe and secure.”
The Governor prayed that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and grant the families they left behind the fortitude the bear the irreplaceable loss.
The Bell Helicopter 206B3, belonging to Quorum Aviation Ltd, crashed on Friday 28th August 2020, at 12 pm, according to the leader of the Lagos State Emergency Services team, DG/CEO, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who addressed reporters at the Opebi crash site on Friday.
Two people were confirmed dead, while an adult male who was said to have been badly injured in the crash, was rescued and taken to LASUTH for further treatment. The dead bodies have been deposited at the mortuary.
