American rapper and producer, Sean Combs known better as Diddy, has written a letter to ‘Africa’ explaining how he has been trying to connect with the Motherland in a soulful spiritual way but has constantly failed in his mission.
Diddy who was one of the producers in Burna Boy’s just-released album titled ‘Twice As Nice’ in a series of tweets he tweeted on his official Twitter handle on Saturday 15th August 2020, explained his intentions for the motherland ‘Africa’, where he also said Burna Boy is the first African artiste he has ever worked with. He said:
“Dear Africa, you have been heavy on my mind and my heart. I’ve been trying to connect to the motherland for a minute, but I never got a chance to do it properly. When I say properly, I mean in a soulful spiritual way.
But during this time we’ve had off, God blessed me to get a call from my brother, Burna Boy,” he started his ‘letter to Africa’.
Diddy sounding more like other African-American celebrities (most recent of them being Beyonce), who have worked with some African artistes, especially on the Afrobeat music genre, asked for collaborations after working successfully with African Giant, Burna Boy.
He continued his tweet saying this about Burna:
“He’s the first African artist I’ve been blessed to work with and he didn’t know this but at the time I was praying to God to bring something to me that would help to bring us all together through music.
I think it’s so important we all make it our mission to build a bridge to the motherland. Let’s continue to uplift and build with our brothers and sisters.
It’s what THEY fear the most…Strength in numbers. Love, your brother Diddy. See y’all soon! #BlackUnity #TWICEASTALL,” he added.
Diddy is credited to be the executive producer of Burna Boy’s ‘Twice As Tall’ and other producers name on the album are Telz, P2J, Timbaland, Leriq, Rexxie, Skread, Andre Harris, Jae5, Mike Dean, and many more.
The question alot of Africans keep asking even after Beyonce, is whether or not these artistes coming to ‘work’ with African artistes are for real, or just taking advantage of the Afrobeat market. That is, they are using the African artiste to launch themselves into the Afrobeat market, since is now so big in Europe and America.
