A few days after assuring Nigerians of the commitment of his administration to more decisive anti-insurgency operations targeted at bandits in some states in the North, and restore a sense of lasting peace, President Muhammad Buhari on Monday 8th June 2020, received the Cheif of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Yusuf Buratai at the State House.

According to the statement made available by the Presidency, the visit by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, at the State House, was to brief the President on the anti-insurgency operations in the North, and other parts of the country.

Those present at the Monday’s Anti-insurgency operations briefing were the President, Muhammadu Buhari and his Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari.

The meeting comes almost two months after the Chief of Army Staff relocated to Borno State to oversee a ramping up of anti-insurgency operations. He briefed the President today on the outcome so far. More than 1,400 terrorists killed, and 166 informants and couriers arrested. The anti-insurgency operations continue, the Presidency added.

President Muhammadu Buhari before this meeting, had assured Nigerians that more decisive military operations targeted at bandits in Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna and Niger States, which have been receiving constantly reported cases of killings, in the days ahead.
The President in his short message on his official Twitter handle, said:

“The loss of lives from their dastardly attacks is sad and regrettable and intensifies our resolve to ensure these bandits are not spared”.
