Reggae Legend, Majek Fashek The Rainmaker Dies At 57

Nigerian music legend and reggae king, Majekodunmi Fasheke, (pronounced as Ma-je-ko-dun-mi Ifa-kii-she-eke), popularly known as Majek Fashek a.k.a. the Rainmaker is dead.

His manager Omenka Uzoma confirmed the death of the rainmaker, singer-songwriter and guitarist via an Instagram video. (official_majekfashek)

“…yes it is true that the legend has gone to be with the Lord, but this time, I want to say we should all celebrate him, he has done a lot for Nigeria and Africa, and whatever the family decides will get to you.”

Aged 17, Majek gained popularity through his 1988 album “Prisoner of Conscience”, which included the multiple award-winning single “Send Down the Rain”, thus earning him the nickname “Rainmaker”

The musician also worked with stars like Jimmy Cliff, Tracy Chapman and Snoop Dogg.

Born to an Ijesha father and a Bini mother, Majek had a long-running battle with his health and was hospitalised at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, London in November 2019.
