Ganduje Approves Gen. Buhari Specialist Hospital As Isolation Centre

Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has directed the conversion of Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital Giginyu to an isolation centre for treatment of people that have tested positive for CCOVID19 in the State.

According to the statement released on Sunday 19th April 2020, by the Kano State government, the category of people that will be accommodated at the Specialist hospital are confirmed positive cases that have mild or no symptoms at all.

The Specialist hospital according to the government, will have 100 beds and it has all other necessary equipment for the treatment of patients.

Normal health services at the Specialist hospital have been suspended and the general public is advised to visit Khalifa Sheikh Isiaka Rabiu Hospital at Zoo Road or any other facility in the State for medical care.

This good news comes a few weeks after the Kano State Government through the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Alhaji Usman in a letter dated Tuesday 14th April 2020, requested to use the Specialist hospital, where he said;

“following the establishment of 500 beds isolation centre at Sani Abachi Stadium specifically for the patients diagnosed with coronavirus, and the fact that the centre is yet to be completed, Government deemed it necessary to utilise General Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital to serve as Isolation centre for the treatment of patients with mild symptoms of the dreaded disease,” he said.

Stating further, he said:

“The import of this communication, therefore, is to intimate you of the foregoing development and request you make immediate arrangements towards ensuring the successful take-off of the isolation centre at the hospital.

While urging you to accord this issue top-priority, please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards,” he added.
