The United Kingdom has confirmed its first coronavirus death, as the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust report that a patient who was undergoing treatment after testing positive from coronavirus died.
A statement from the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust said: “Sadly, we can confirm that an older patient with underlying health conditions has died.
“The patient has previously been in and out of hospital for non-coronavirus reasons, but on this occasion was admitted and last night tested positive for coronavirus.”
The patient’s family have been informed of the death.
“The family has been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time,” the statement added.
“We will not be commenting further and ask that everybody respects the family’s privacy.”
It comes after the number of cases in the UK hit 115 earlier today.
This includes 105 in England, three in Wales, six in Scotland and three in Northern Ireland.
Just two days ago there were only 51 UK cases.
