Meghan Markle returns to Canada a day after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement telling the Queen of their plans to resign their roles as senior Royals and relocate to Canada.
Meghan who has come under attack since the release of the shocking statement, was said to have returned to Canada on Thursday to be with her eight-month-old son Archie, while her husband Prince Harry stayed back, a spokeswoman for the Duchess of Sussex confirmed to Daily Mail.
She “hadn’t planned” to stay in the UK for long after arriving in Britain on Monday ahead of the bombshell announcement, sources said.
It comes after the Queen, Prince Charles and the Duke of Cambridge were said to have ordered their teams to find a “workable solution” over Harry and Meghan’s future amid four-way talks to head off a royal crisis.
Buckingham Palace revealed they would work “at pace” to find an outcome for Harry and Meghan in a matter of “days, not weeks”.
Royal aides from across the households have also been instructed to liaise with Government departments amid suggestions US and Canadian officials may be involved.
The Queen released a fresh statement on the move, which was described on Wednesday as a “complicated issue”
It read: “The Queen, the Prince Of Wales and Duke of Cambridge have directed their teams to work together at pace with the government and the Sussex household to find workable solutions.”
And the royals seem to have the next five days free of any public engagements.
The Duke of Cambridge is due to be in Yorkshire for a number of appearances next Wednesday, alongside the Duchess of Cambridge. Meanwhile, Harry is not expected to be seen in public again until next Thursday, when he will do the draw for the Rugby League World Cup in 2021.
Given the Queen’s timetable of “days” it is likely they will want any talks concluded before the Prince of Wales travels to Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories at the end of the month, to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Evening Standard reports.
The Duke and Duchess, who had only recently returned from a six-week stay in Canada with eight-month-old son Archie, said in their statement:
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.
This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.
