The Duke of Edinburgh and the husband to Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip has left the hospital, after spending four days on admission.
According to reports, the Duke of Edinburgh left the King Edward VII’s hospital in central London at 8.49 am on Tuesday 24th December 2019.
He got into the passenger seat of a car in a secluded street behind the hospital.
Philip waved to a nurse before he was driven away.
Multiple police stood guard around the hospital as well as royal protection officers.
After his departure, Buckingham Palace said: “His Royal Highness would like to thank everyone who sent their good wishes.”
He was driven to Buckingham Palace to then take a helicopter Sandringham where he will spend Christmas with the Queen, who travelled there by train on Friday.
She was pictured attending church without him on Sunday.
Philip’s admission was described as a “precautionary measure”.
A Buckingham Palace statement on Friday said: “The Duke of Edinburgh travelled from Norfolk this morning to the King Edward VII Hospital in London for observation and treatment in relation to a pre-existing condition.
“The admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s doctor.”
Buckingham Palace would not go into details about Philip’s pre-existing condition or the nature of his treatment.
The duke was not taken by ambulance and was expected to be in the hospital for a few days.
Prince Charles had also given an update about the status of his health on Monday, where he told reporters that the Duke of Edinburg is well taken care of at the hospital. He never said anything about him leaving the hospital today, but grateful he has responded well to treatment.
