The Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick has confirmed that two people were killed during the London Bridge terror attack on Friday afternoon. The Police also said that three other victims are being treated in hospital.

The suspect of the London Bridge Terror attack was shot dead by police, after they suspected that he might be wearing an explosive vest, which turned out not to be so.

Ms Dick while speaking on Friday, said counter-terror detectives would be working around the clock to “understand who this man is, where he comes from and whether there is anyone else who we need to find quickly who might be in touch with him”.

She added: “We are also working at full tilt to understand what has happened and whether anyone else was involved.

“For this reason we expect cordons to remain in place around the London Bridge area for some time.”

Asked whether the suspect was known to police, Ms Dick said: “This is a very fast-moving, dynamic investigation, we will keep you updated.”

“For this reason we expect cordons to remain in place around the London Bridge area for some time.”

She said: “The attack started a Fishmonger’s Hall in the City of London. My understanding is that police were called at 1358 – two minutes to 2 – and City of London Police officers had bravely and professionally confronted the suspect at 1403, just five minutes later.

The commissioner also said that London would “emerge stronger” from the attack.

The empty ideology of terror offers nothing but hatred and today I urge everyone to reject that,” she said.

“Ours is a great city because we embrace each other’s differences. We must emerge stronger still from this tragedy. In doing that we will ensure that the few who seek to divide us will never, ever succeed.”

Ms Dick refused to comment on the identities of the two fatalities, and the condition of other injured parties.

She asked for anyone with video footage to come forward.
The incident unfolded at Fishmonger’s Hall just before 2pm when a terrorist wearing a fake suicide vest went on a knife rampage in central London.

Several people were stabbed by the knifeman before he was grappled to the ground and disarmed by members of the public on London Bridge.

Footage on social media showed one man being urged to move away by armed officers before the suspect was shot at point-blank range, as another bystander could be seen carrying a large knife from the scene.
