A Game Of Thrones prequel series has been announced by HBO as the series will be set 300 years before the original show, which will feature on its new streaming service, Standard had reported.
House Of The Dragon is a spin-off that will focus on the House of Targaryen and it has been co-created by writer George RR Martin whose books the original series is based on.
Ryan Condal, who co-created the prequel with Martin, will serve as executive producer, alongside Miguel Sapochnik.
Recent reports claim another prequel, Bloodmoon starring Naomi Watts, has been cancelled after the pilot was filmed earlier this year.
Naomi Watts, Oscar-nominated for her roles in 2003 neo-noir film 21 Grams and 2012 disaster film The Impossible, was set to star in the show.
This spin-off, from Jane Goldman and Martin, was set thousands of years before the original however sources at Hollywood Reporter claimed that Goldman emailed the cast to share the news that the project has been scrapped.
British actress Emilia Clarke won critical acclaim for playing Daenerys Targaryen in all eight seasons of Game Of Thrones.
House Of The Dragon was announced at an event in Los Angeles, where further details about streaming service HBO Max were revealed.
Game Of Thrones is widely considered one of the greatest TV series of all time and came to an end earlier this year after eight record-breaking seasons.
The news comes just one day after Game Of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss parted ways from Disney, just 18 months after their plans for a new Star Wars trilogy were announced.
The Game Of Thrones creators had been due to create three new instalments, the first of which was due to arrive in cinemas in 2022.
However, on Tuesday morning, they confirmed they will no longer be working with LucasFilm.
