Vimbai pays glowing tributes to late President Robert Mugabe

Zimbabwean celebrity and talk show host, Vimbai pays glowing tribute to late President Robert Mugabe, whose death was announced on Friday by President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe.

Vimbai who is now fully based in Nigeria, on hearing the sad news, took to her social media page to share a glowing tribute to the former dictator and one of the longest-serving African Presidents.

She put up photos of her and the late Robert Mugabe, as the one time Big Brother Africa housemate captioned one of the photos with these words:

Asante sana. Iwe neni tine basa (Thank you very much. You and I had a mission)Rest In Peace Comrade Robert Gabriel Mugabe, Gushungo!! 💔” she said.

In case you are wondering why the beautiful Vimbai is paying tribute to the late Robert Mugabe, Vimbai’s father Ambrose Mutinhiri who is a well-known politician, and an ex-Zimbabwean Military general, has been a close friend and ally to the late Mugabe.

Ambrose Mutinhiri also served as the minister of Youth and Sports under the administration of Robert Mugabe, and later represented Marondera, a constituency in Mashonaland East in the House of Assembly. He was part of those that formed the National Patriotic Front (NPF) which later contested the 2018 election, after the forced resignation of Robert Mugabe. The election was won by Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zanu Pf.

Clearly, there has been a close relationship between the Mutinhiris and the Mugabes before the death of Robert Mugabe. This strong relationship I am sure will continue with other family members of Robert Mugabe.

The death of Robert Mugabe was announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday morning, via his Twitter handle. The late Mugabe died at the age of 95.

Mugabe ruled Zimbabwe from its independence in 1980 until he was ousted in 2017. He was reported to have died in Singapore.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa wrote on Twitter: “It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe’s founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe.

“Cde Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people. His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
