EPL: Liverpool off to a good start, thump Norwich 4-1 at Anfield

Liverpool kicked off the 2019-2020 season of the English Premier League on Friday night with great intent, as playing in front of their home crowd at Anfield, they thumped newly promoted Norwich 4-1 to open the season.

The game as expected, saw the last season second placed team and reigning European Champions, Liverpool dominating possession and forcing their visitors into some unprofessional errors which they capitalized on for their goals, sending a direct message to the likes of Manchester City and other teams hoping to lift the Premier League this season.

Liverpool got their first goal of the game through an own goal from a Norwich  City player, Grant Hanley who with an attempt to clear the ball away from his half, ended up putting it into his own net and goalkeeper Krul could do nothing about it

As the game progressed, Norwich City who initially looked threatening, started to fall apart, as they were all over the place. Salah made it 2-0, as he becomes the first player for Liverpool to have scored the first goal in the opening games in three consecutive seasons.

The giant at the heart of Liverpool’s defence, Van Dijk scored a header to make it 3-0, before Origi added his name to the goal scorer chat to make it 4-0.

The game progressed well for Liverpool, and just when their manager thought he was having the best Friday night, his goalkeeper and that man who had played the whole of 38 games last season, Alisson, was pulled off due to injury.

The Brazilian goalkeeper who got injured after hitting a ball, was taken off the pitch with new signing and former West Ham goalkeeper Adrián San Migue replacing him.

The second half started well for the visitors, who despite being down by 4-0 in the first half, didn’t stop their forward play, and were later rewarded for it.

Adrian proved himself when he was called to put out some saves from Norwich attacks, but could do little when Norwich goal machine Teemu Pukki tried his luck one more time, to give the visitors their first goal and only goal of the game which ended 4-1 in favour of Liverpool.

An important win and three points for Liverpool, but alot still needs to be done at the back if they truly want to go all the way this time around. But it was a good display of attacking football from Liverpool.

In the game, Klopp lined up: Alisson, Robertson, Gomez, Arnold, Van Dijk, Henderson, Salah, Origi, Firmino,
Fabinho and Wijnaldum.
