Although this will not be the first time Chelsea and Arsenal will be seeing players from opposing end switching places, that of David Luiz on deadline day, has come as a surprise to many, who thought the appointment of an ex- team mate Frank Lampard as a manager would give the Brazilian an edge over other defenders, until the news of his imminent departure from the Bridge broke.
David Luiz is moving to Arsenal, a few months after Petr Cech returned from the North London club to become a director at Chelsea. But David Luiz move will see him reunite with his former coach, Unai Emery, as the two have worked before while in France playing and coaching for Paris Saint Germain (PSG).
Speaking on the new signing, Arsenal’s manager Unai Emery has this to say: “David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again. He is a well known player and adds to our defensive strength.”
The David Luiz move for Arsenal, is just a temporary one given his age and how much he has left in him as a player. While he might have his shortcomings as a defender, he is definitely that one character Arsenal needs at the back, leadership wise.
Chelsea have since confirmed the transfer, and send their best wishes to the Brazilian.
