The attempt by some Shiites members who are known as the Islamic Movement of Nigeria to take their protest against the continued detention of their leader El-Zakzaky by the Federal Government of Nigeria to the National Assembly on Tuesday, turned bloody, as many including security operatives were reported to have been injured in the violence that greeted the protest.

The Shiites members who have continued their protest against the Government in an effort to free their leader were at the National Assembly to seek the audience of Lawmakers but things turned ugly when they attempted to force their way through to the National Assembly gate.

They engaged the security men at the gate who refused them entry, but somehow, they were able to pass through the first gate and the second gate where the Police after sensing that they were going all the way to the chamber, started throwing tear gas to disperse them. But the Shiites members in their numbers started throwing stones in return, injuring some of the security men.

This will not be the first time Shiites members will be engaging security forces as since the arrest and continued detention of their leader, they have at many occasions taken to the streets of Abuja to protest against the government, and each time they do this, they have always been met with strong resistance from security forces, just like this one.

The injured Policemen have been taken to the National Assembly Clinic for treatment, while Shiites members also carried away their injured members. But there are no official reports on how many people were injured, or any death, as the Police and the National Assembly are yet to release a report on the Tuesday bloody protest.
