The saying “looks can be deceiving” and “Never judge a book by its cover” if there was any right time to use it, was a few hours ago when British boxer and former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua clashed with his challenger, Mexican boxer, and the new world boxing heavyweight champion, Andy Ruiz.
Andy Ruiz who was called up for the fight last minute after the alleged failed drug test by Big-Baby Miller, probably was just in for the money. The Mexican coming into the fight, he was already judged and every honour taken away from him, both by Anthony Joshua who had predicted an early knockout for himself (as he thought he had an easy opponent and was going to walk over him) and his fans who had mocked Andy Ruiz for his physique. But the Mexican and veteran boxer showed why he is called the destroyer as he shocked the world and the British fans to knock out their Anthony Joshua in the 7th round at the Madison Square Garden…I am gutted myself! as a boxing fan and as a Nigerian! WTF!..lol
The win by Andy Ruiz makes him the first ever Mexican to become a heavyweight boxing champion, and the world is loving the huge upset and Joshua records his fight defeat as a professional boxer.
Joshua was dropped four times in the fight, as the man who appeared fit and was going to destroy his opponent, loses three world title belts in one of the biggest underdog upsets in heavyweight history.
The fight started well for Anthony Joshua as he took control of the fight into the third round, but again for the second time in his fighting career, he took his eyes off his game plan and Ruiz took advantage of that, and knocked him down!
Congratulations to Andy Ruiz and the new IBF, WBA and WBO world champion…a rematch is on the way though…
