The bald Belgian, and captain fantastic, Vincent Kompany might have just handed his team Manchester City and manager, Pep Guardiola the English Premier League title, after his 30-yards out screamer saw City defeat stubborn Leicester City by a lone goal at the Etihad on Monday night.
Kompany’s rocket was what decided the game, as after much pushing and an attempt to break the defence wall of the Leicester City team proved abortive, the City captain stepped up and delivered on a night they needed someone to step up and get the job done.
Brendan Rodgers who is not known to play a defensive kind of game, and although, it is a public knowledge that such pattern or style of play is in the DNA of Leicester, no one expected the former Liverpool manager to set up his team so deep against City. The approach frustrated City who were looking more tired, and already used to teams packing the Bus against them, but gave everything to get a result.
Leicester City struggled to get off at their own half , as they held Manchester City up until 70th minutes before captain fantastic, Vincent Kompany took the bold decision to strike from outside 30-yards out. The strike from Kompany thundered into the top corner beyond the outstretched Schmeichel to send the home crowd and Pep Guardiola into raptures.
The win means City finish the week one point above Liverpool, and by the weekend, they will be going away to a Brighton, while Liverpool will face Wolves at home on Sunday.
On paper, the League has already been won by City, but given what Brighton did at the Emirate against Arsenal, Liverpool could be counting on them on the last day. But they too will be facing a giant killer’s Wolves and would be facing a more difficult opponent than City on the last day.
