Magic Johnson has stepped down as the President of LA Lakers basketball operations. This is coming at a very strange time, as the Los Angeles team are experiencing their worst season ever, missing out in a whole lot this season.
According to TMZ report, Magic Johnson held court with reporters before the Lakers took on the Portland Trailblazers, and in a stunning move, he revealed he’s walking away from the role he held for 2 years.
The decision totally blindsided everyone as Magic Johnson says he is yet to even inform Lakers owner Jeanie Buss that he is stepping away from the team.
TMZ also reported that Magic Johnson gave his reasons for stepping down from his influential role, saying he was not having fun running the Lakers, and he was happier before he took the job.
Magic’s departure adds another big hole to fill for the Lakers, who enter a super important offseason after missing the playoffs in LeBron James’ first year in purple and gold.
