The two emerging media/entertainment giants in Africa, Mo Abudu and Linda Ikeji are right about now in France for the Cannes Film Festival, as they both aim to push the movie and entertainment Industry in Africa and Nigeria most especially to the world.
The Cannes Film Festival is the biggest trade fair for Television and media, and these women who have been making Africa and Nigeria proud will be honoured on this day.
While multiple award winner, Mo Abudu is already an established and well-known brand, and name in the entertainment world, and a board member in some of the world’s renowned award bodies, Dr Linda Ikeji is somehow new in the entertainment business. Linda is looking to make a switch from just being a blogger to challenging the African market with the likes of Netflix for the Internet subscription services for watching TV episodes and movies, as she already launched her Linda Ikeji TV.
Linda Ikeji will be speaking at the Cannes Film Festival about content in Africa and her plans to take African stories to a global audience and promote her Linda Ikeji TV.
Mo Abudu who have been updating us on the happenings in Cannes France will be honoured at the MIPTV 2019 alongside other top Executives and personalities from other countries, that have contributed to media growth.
According to BroadbandTV, the prestigious MIPTV Médailles d’Honneur are awarded to senior executives who have, through their talent, leadership and passion, made a significant contribution to the world of television and the development of the international TV community, and Mo Abudu has been ranked in that category.
In her profiling, Mo Abudu who is the CEO of EbonyLife Media was described as a successful woman who has been ranked by Forbes as “Africa’s Most Successful Woman”. One of the most prolific producers in Africa, Abudu launched Nigerian broadcaster and producer EbonyLife TV in 2013, producing over 1,000 hours of original programming each year.
Abudu took the plunge into filmmaking, with the creation of EbonyLife Films. She is the Executive Producer of Fifty, the no.1 Nigerian film of 2015; The Wedding Party (2016), the most successful Nollywood film ever at the Nigerian box office; The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai (2017), the highest grossing Nollywood film of all time; and Chief Daddy (2018), the third-highest grossing Nigerian film.
In March 2018, Sony Pictures Television (SPT) announced a three-project deal with EbonyLifeTV, the first of its kind between SPT and a Nigerian television company.
Cannes Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Cannes, France, which previews new films of all genres, including documentaries from all around the world. Founded in 1946, the invitation-only festival is held annually (usually in May) at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. It is one of the “Big Three” alongside the Venice Film Festival and Berlin International Film Festival.
