LASTMA divert traffic as truck catches fire on Ojota Bridge

The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) cleared up an accident scene at the popular Ojota Bridge, as a truck head catches fire on top of the ever busy bridge on Sunday morning. The accident scene have since been fully evacuated and lanes reopened for vehicular movements.

The fire was reported at about 8:26am this morning. When the crews of the Lagos State Emergency Agency and State Fire Service arrived the scene which was timely, the truck head was fully engulfed in a big flames. Not sure of where and how the fire started, but from the information given so far, no one was hurt and the driver and conductor escaped unhurt and the container unburnt.

The Lagos State Emergency team who arrived the Ojota Bridge which was the scene of the accident, closed the lane and diverted traffic to alternative routes, so that they can fight the fire and clear up the debris and move the truck.

The statement released by LASMA a few hours ago reporting the accident reads:

Burning truck on OjotaBridge inw Tollgate occupying the entire main carriageway causing traffic backlog approaching Alapere. The service lane is available for movement for now. The Lagos State fire Service already informed. 

Alternative movement: Go through Ogudu to link IkoroduRd and connect back to Ojota Bridge from the Interchange. For those going towards Ikorodu, use inner Alapere for navigation”

A few minutes later, they update information as to the work ongoing at the accident scene, saying that:

The Lagos State fire Service
already on site.
