Mario Mandzukic honoured by his home town

Croatian and Juventus striker, Mario Mandzukic has been honoured by his home town of Brod in Eastern Croatia for his beautiful exploit in the just concluded FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia with the Croatian National team where they came second behind the eventual winner, France.

Mario Madzukic who was delighted to have been honoured by the Mayor of his town, and the people, took to his social media page to share some photos of the ceremony of him being honoured and appreciate the people for their kind gesture. He shared the photos with this caption:

“I did not even dream of being able to have this kind of memorial one day in my town – thank the mayor and everyone in the city for this kind of honor – I am delighted to see children and young people – I can only tell them to follow their dreams and never from they do not give up ? Thank you for the support and love you have shown me ?? ❤ #SlavonskiBrod #Ponos #Radost #Hrvatska # mm17”

Mario Madzukic who is 32-years, started his career in his hometown club of Marsonia from where he moved to two Croatian capital city football clubs, first joining NK Zagreb and then signing with Dinamo Zagreb in 2007, where he was Prva HNL top goalscorer in the 2008–09 season. His prolific scoring earned him a transfer to VfL Wolfsburg in 2010, and then Bayern, Atletico Madrid and now Juventus.

At the international level, Mario Mandzukic was given his debut for Croatia in November 2007 under manager Slaven Bilić. He participated in four major tournaments with his national side, Euro 2012, the 2014 World Cup, Euro 2016, and the 2018 World Cup, reaching the final of the latter tournament, after which he retired from international football. In total, he made 89 international appearances, and with 33 goals, he is the Croatia national team’s second-most prolific scorer of all time, behind Davor Šuker. He was named Croatian Footballer of the Year in 2012 and 2013.
