Nigerian-American director and screenwriter Chinonye Chukwu I the first black woman to win the Sundance film festival biggest prize for the her movie titled ‘Clemency”.
The Sundance film festival awards which took place a few days ago, saw Chinonye Chukwu winning the US Grand jury prize for her dramatic entry, Clemency and becoming the first black to do so.
Chinonye Chukwu wrote and directed the death row hit drama, which had Producers: Bronwyn Cornelius, Julian Cautherley, Peter Wong, Timur Bekbosunov, and a film centred on how years of carrying out death row executions have taken a toll on prison warden Bernadine Williams.
As she prepares to execute another inmate, Bernadine must confront the psychological and emotional demons her job creates, ultimately connecting her to the man she is sanctioned to kill. Cast: Alfre Woodard, Aldis Hodge, Richard Schiff, Wendell Pierce, Richard Gunn, Danielle Brooks.
