One of Hollywood finest and popular TV series Empire star, Taraji Henson was on Monday honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk-Of-Fame joining hundreds of celebrities who have been honoured for their work and contribution to entertainment and society.

Taraji Henson who was visibly emotional in her acceptance speech, thanked her family, especially her 94-year-old grandmother who has been a source of inspiration to her, saying she is happy that she is alive to witness the greatest honour anyone can get in life.

The 48-year-old who recently got engaged to her partner dedicated the star to her grandmother, mother, and son as family comes first for her.

‘Everything I do, I work so hard to make them proud.’

Speaking about her grandmother she said:

‘I know she never thought that she would live to see this…and grandma I hope that you are so proud because this is your legacy.’

‘I made a promise I said “Ma don’t you to cry no more. I’m going to be rich one day and I’m going to be famous and I’m going to take care of you.

‘So I had a lot to live up to, because you know, I said it so I had to do it.’

Taraji went on to college at Howard University and became pregnant with son Marcell whom she gave birth to in 1994.

Even after her son arrival she could have easily given up all her dreams but she did not saying:

‘I just made a promise to him, I said “I’m never going to give up, I know things are going to be hard.’

She went on to say: ‘When you love that deep and you make promises, you have to keep them.’

The likes of John Singleton and Mary J. Blige were present to celebrate with her, so also were some of her fans and family members. See more photos:
