President Trump’s defence Secretary Jim Mattis is yet another member of the cabinet member  of the White House  to be leaving their post, as he on Thursday announced that he was resigning his position, which Trump has tagged ‘retirement’.

Jim Mattis is resigning after two years of disagreements with President Donald Trump over America’s role in the world, and his departure is not coming as a shock, especially when it was only a few days he was shutdown for voicing his opinion against the withdrawal of troops from Syria, after Trump’s declaration of victory against ISIS and a number of other foreign issues.

Jim Mattis is said to be the most respected foreign policy official in the Trump’s administration, and his leaving makes it the 10th  cabinet member existing Trump’s somehow troubled administration since he assumed office as President, and Jim will probably not be the last.

According to reports, Jim Mattis had in a written note to Trump, told him of his intention of leaving his position, as he can no longer work where his views are not respected. But this claims have been denied, as Trump explains in his tweet why Mattis was leaving saying:

General Jim Mattis will be retiring, with distinction, at the end of February, after having served my Administration as Secretary of Defense for the past two years. During Jim’s tenure, tremendous progress has been made, especially with respect to the purchase of new fighting equipment.

General Mattis was a great help to me in getting allies and other countries to pay their share of military obligations. A new Secretary of Defense will be named shortly. I greatly thank Jim for his service!” He said.
