Chelsea has announced that it has suspended four fans identified in a video at the Bridge during the Saturday game against Raheem Sterling, and further investigations are still ongoing by the Club and the Police.
The statement as released by the club on the racial slur and suspension, states:
Chelsea Football Club has suspended four people from attending Chelsea matches pending further investigations into allegations regarding the behaviour of supporters towards Raheem Sterling during our match against Manchester City on Saturday.
Our investigations into this matter are ongoing. We are fully supporting the police investigation and any information we gather will be passed on to them.
Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour abhorrent and if there is evidence of ticket holders taking part in any racist behaviour, the club will issue severe sanctions, including bans. We will also fully support any criminal prosecutions.”
The club had earlier released this short statement after the game:
“We are aware of reports and video footage. We will investigate the matter fully and will take the strongest possible action where necessary”.
Raheem Sterling had also released a statement blaming the British media for fueling racism, citing a case of how the media reported two Manchester City player who had bought a house for their mothers. While that of the white player was reported in a way that made it seem what he did was good, that of the other black player was reported differently, and in a bad light.
The reports according to Raheem Sterling clearly shows how the media have constantly fueled racism.
