The President of South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa a few hours ago, received a letter of resignation from the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Malusi Knowledge Nkanyezi Gigaba who resigned his post in the government.

According to a report by the Government, President Cyril Ramaphosa accepted the Minister’s resignation and expressed his appreciation for Minister’s Gigaba longstanding service to the government and people of South Africa.

Mr Gigaba was appointed as Deputy Minister of Home Affairs in 2004 and subsequently served as Minister of Public Enterprises, Minister of Finance and for two intervals as Minister of Home Affairs.

The statement further stated that, Minister Gigaba indicated in his letter of resignation that he was stepping aside for the sake of our country and the movement to which he belongs. Further to relieve the President from undue pressure and allow him to focus on improving the lives of the people of South Africa and for him to do the best he can to serve the country and save it from this economic meltdown.

President Ramaphosa has since requested Minister of Transport Dr Blade Nzimande to act as Minister of Home Affairs until a permanent appointment is made.
Mr Gigaba on his social media page, described his resignation as this:
“I serve at the behest of His Excellence the president, why should I resign if the president still has confidence in me. Please media puppets we have a country to run. Some of us do not make money by talking and spreading lies.

The #WhiteMonopolyCapitalists are after me, it seems they won’t rest until I’m out of cabinet. I want to place on record that I might go now but I’ll come back stronger. All I did wrong was to uplift our poor black people

I will not stop fighting for poor people, it is what I stand for. It is an intractable mission but we are going to culminate our mission.” he said.
