One of the pioneers of entertainment publishing business in Nigeria and Africa, Mr Dele Momodu has a few hours ago, denied that he is a member of any cult group, especially the popular Pyrates Confraternity.

This is coming, after he was dragged by some Nigerians on social media, for posting a birthday celebration videos of one of the members on his Instagram page, as they wrongly accused him of promoting and encouraging cultism.

Dele Momodu who is the brain behind popular entertainment magazine, the Ovation Magazine has in the last few days, been going back and forth with some of his followers, on the issue of cultism in Nigeria, and how this practice has been in existence way before some of them were born, but unfortunately, the idea of cultism has been bastardized.

He put up a photo of past Nigerian leaders, like Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Sir Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, being welcomed by members of the Pyrates Confraternity, both in the University of Ibadan and University of Ife (Obafemi Awolowo University) in the 1960s.

One of his fans had reacted to some of the videos of the Pyrates Confraternity put up by Dele Momodu, saying:

Stop justifying nonsense sir. Confra of 1960 is not the same as 2018. Will you be happy and proud if any of your son turn out to be a member.

Another asked:
My question to you, as a public figure should @delemomoduovation be promoting occultic groups? We’ve had enough of abused cult clashes by young youths. I still see no reasons for publicly promoting one as a well respected reputable

In reacting to one of his followers on social media, Dele Momodu sensing where the arguments were heading to, decided to put out a post to give a clarification as to where he stands as regarding cultism as of today. He said:

“Will a reporter run away from reportage, the answer is NOOO… Will he shy away from recording history, the answer is NOOO… Will he promote ignorance and intolerance and allow you to malign distinguished members of our society because some kids have bastardised everything today, the answer again is NOOO. Our duty as elders is to continue to teach and educate.

I was never, and I’m not, a member of any cult, whether benevolent or malevolent, but I won’t join you in casting aspersions on people you don’t know. I have had very close interactions with different members of our society, in my capacity as a journalist and political figure, and can confidently confirm that National Association of Seadogs, also known as The Pyrates Confraternity, is full of responsible adults and not criminals or dregs of society.

They are duly registered and you can read about their activities, if you so wish, via Google. They have made meaningful and substantial contributions and interventions at critical moments in the trajectory of our nation. This is a statement of fact and not an endorsement…”
