Alonso signs a new five-year contract extension with Chelsea

Chelsea and Spanish left-back Marcos Alonso has a few hours ago, signed a new five-year contract extension with the London club, as the 27-year old looks to continue his stay at the Premier League club.

Alonso since joining Chelsea in 2016, has seen his style and football improved under different managers, and has since gained a call-up to the Spanish Senior National team side. He is also looking to be a regular to the National team which has a lot of good players in almost all positions.

After putting pen to paper on his new deal, the 27-year-old said:

‘I am so happy to stay here longer and to keep playing for one of the best teams in the world. It’s been a very good two seasons and I am looking forward to more.’

Club director Marina Granovskaia added:

‘We are delighted to be extending Marcos’ contract. In the past two seasons he has developed into an important player for the club, demonstrating his outstanding ability and a fantastic attitude that has helped him become a Premier League champion and Spain international.’

The left-back is a huge threat going forward, as his combination with Victor Moses on the right-wing back gave Chelsea the league under ex-manager, Antonio Conte. He had six crucial goals that year, with his trademark free-kicks and thunderbolt strikes that has done so many damage to some goalkeepers.

Alonso also has been a crucial part of new manager, Maurizio Sarri’s side, as he keeps improving on his defense and also passing, under Sarri, which has seen Chelsea players enjoying their football again, after a disastrous outing last season under Conte.

Chelsea’s last game against Manchester United which ended in a 2-2, saw them extend their unbeaten record to 9 out of 9 games, alongside the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, and Marcos has been a part of this huge achievement.
