Alhaji Abubakar Atiku has pledged to give 40% slot of his cabinet members to women and youths if elected as Nigeria’s President come 2019.

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming general elections in 2019, in his statement a few hours ago, said under the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, Nigeria is now ranked as the headquarter of extreme poverty in the world.

He said he has given an undertaken that he will change the situation by empowering the women and youths of Nigeria. He said:

“Nigeria under Buhari is now the world HQ for extreme poverty. If we are to change that, we must empower women & youths. Therefore, I give an undertaking that if by the grace of God, I am elected by you the good people of Nigeria, at least 40% of my cabinet would be women & youths”

“During my time in government, we designed our policies to help young people grow – stronger banks, telecoms etc. Many returned to Nigeria to start successful businesses.

Today, those young people are leaving again, to Canada etc. We are losing our best doctors & professionals.”

“Our policy document which is ready and will be unveiled soon is dedicated primarily to creating an enabling environment for Nigerian youth and women to return to the path of wealth creation and gainful employment.”

Alhaji Abubakar Atiku will be looking to win the 2019 Presidential election, having picked former Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi as his running mate.

The idea of two Presidential candidates coming from the Northern region and going head-to-head is really going to be an interesting contest, as unlike the 2015 elections where it was the South against the North, 2019 would see a split decision on the side of the electorate.

The fight for both PDP and APC will be in the South West, North Central, East and West, as the South East and South South since the return of Democracy in 1999, have followed one voting pattern, which has been PDP…whether or not this pattern is going to change come 2019, we cannot tell, but  just wait, and see…
