APC NWC confirms Dapo Abiodun as the winner of Ogun Gov Primaries

Dapo Abiodun has been announced as the rightful winner of Ogun state Governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the National Leadership of the party, thereby defeating the alleged plan of the incumbent Governor, Governor Ibikunle Amosun to impose his own candidate Hon. Adekunle Akinale on the people of Ogun State.

This is coming a few days after the APC Ogun State chapter announced Honourable Adekunle Akinlade, a current member of House of Representatives (Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency) and the anointed candidate of Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, as the winner of the governorship primaries allegedly held and conducted by the Governor.

The APC  electoral committee led by Muhammed Ndabawa had on Wednesday night after the primaries declared another aspirant, Dapo Abiodun as the winner of the exercise, and cautioned state any results out the one announced by the committee will not stand; only for the Governor and state executive of the party to  24-hours later announce another result, declaring their preferred candidate as the winner.

In their statement released on Thursday, the State chairman of the party Chief Derin Adebiyi said:

“The result of the primaries showed that Akinlade scored 190,987 votes, leaving Jimi Lawal in a distant second position with 5,046 votes. Dapo Abiodun garnered 3,648 votes. He was trailed by Abimbola Ashiru with 898 votes, Adegbenga Kaka with 833 votes and Abayomi with 208 votes.”

But the Adams Oshiomhle led National executive has declared Dapo Abiodun as the winner, saying Dapo Abiodun won with 102,305 votes while his opponents Jimi Lawal scored:51,153, Kunle Akinlade: 23, 443, Bimbo Ashiru: 29, 764, Adegbenga Kaka: 17, 771 and Abayomi Koroto: 9, 610.

Dapo Abiodun’s name has since been published as one of those cleared by the NWC as Governorship candidate for the 2019 Governorship election in the State under the APC.

Governor Amosun on the other hand, was among the Governors to visit President Muhammadu Buhari to see how he can intervene and allow their preferred candidate succeed him.
