President Trump has a few hours ago, via his social media page, warned Syria, Iran, and Russia against ‘recklessly attacking’ Idlib which has been described as a rebel stronghold backed by the United State of America.
President Trump in a tweet he put on Monday, said:
“President Bashar al-Assad of Syria must not recklessly attack Idlib Province,” He said.
“The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy. Hundreds of thousands of people could be killed. Don’t let that happen!”
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo last week took to his twitter to also talk about Idlib saying:
“Sergey Lavrov is defending Syrian and Russian assault on #Idlib. The Russians and Assad agreed not to permit this. The U.S sees this as an escalation of an already dangerous conflict.”
“The 3 million Syrians, who have already been forced out of their homes and are now in #Idlib, will suffer from this aggression. Not good. The world is watching.” He said.
President Trump warns any government assault on Idlib as an escalation of Syria’s war, saying the United State would respond to any chemical attack by Damascus.
According to report, President Trump and Pompeo’s warnings come as US officials fear that the Bashar Al-Assad regime could launch an assault on Idlib by making use of chemical weapons in an area with an estimated population of roughly three million plus people.
According to Reuters, Iran called for militants to be “cleaned out” of Idlib, as it prepared for talks with Syria and Russia about confronting the last major enclave held by rebels opposed to Assad.
The report also said that Idlib which is located in the northern province is the stronghold of rebels and where Assad is looking to capture with the help of Iran and Russia. It is said to be the major enclave for rebels who have fought for years now.
