Liverpool’s central defender Ragnar Klavan has joined Serie-A side Cagliari on a permanent deal, as announced by the Merseyside club on their website.

Klavan joined Liverpool from FC Augsburg in the summer of 2016 and played 25 times during his debut season, scoring once in a League Cup tie at Derby County. He played 53 times and two goals in his two season with Liverpool.

The big money signing of Virgin Van Dijk and Klopp favouring Gomez and Matip, the man from Estonia Klavan saw his place relegated to the bench. But this move that will see him leave Liverpool for Serie-A will guarantee him a first-team football.

The centre-back featured in 28 games last season including eight Champions League appearances as Liverpool reached the final, and claimed a memorable winning goal in stoppage-time against Burnley.

Klavan who sealed the formalities of his switch to Cagliari on Friday, will be looking to kick start his footballing career in Italy in a game against Empoli on Sunday.

Klopp will also be looking to make a big statement this season, after signing the most expensive defender in Van Dijk and Goalkeeper Alisson Becker. His defense will be put to test in the coming days when he meets the top teams in a few weeks time.

On their part, while welcoming the player, Cagliar took to their social media page to say:

“Cagliari Calcio announces that it has acquired from Liverpool FC the right to the sports performances of the player Ragnar Klavan who arrives in rossoblù outright by signing a contract until 2020.”

“Captain of Estonia, he has collected 124 caps and was awarded 5 times as Estonian Player of the Year (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017). With Klavan’s signing, Cagliari acquires a player with a huge international experience that he has enjoyed playing for top clubs and in some of the most important European Leagues.

Left-footed, powerful, strong in the air, he is also comfortable at the back. Extremely committed, Klavan will bring his charismatic personality and leadership.
