Atletico Madrid have been crowned Super Cup Champions after beating revivals and neighbours Real Madrid 4-2 in extra in time of the finals.
Former Chelsea striker and Atletico Madrid returnee, Diego Costa was the man of the match, as he kicked started the show with a superb goal in the 40-seconds of starting the game, after beating Ramos with a header, and pulling Verane to the corner to smash home a volley past goalkeeper Navas for Atletico first goal of the night.
Benzema pulled one back for Real Madrid, but Costa was not done, as he netted home his second of the night to put his side on the lead again, before Captain Ramos leveled on the spot for Real making it 2-2.
The game went into extra time, as Atletico Madrid showed class, showing fans a glimpse of what they will be displaying this season, taking home the Super Cup with a 4-2 win over the three-time European Champions, who somehow missed the presence of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The win means Atletico have now won Super Cup for the 3rd time in their history, and the first Europa cup league winners to win Super Cup since they themselves did so against Chelsea in 2012. They have also won nine of the last 10 tournaments.
Also, Diego Costa’s opening goal was the fastest goal ever to be scored in the Uefa Super Cup (49 seconds).
On their part, Real Madrid have conceded four or more goals in a game for the first time since November 2015 against Barcelona in La Liga under Rafael Benitez , they never did so under Zinedine Zidane.
Julen Lopetegui is the first Real Madrid manager to concede four or more goals in his first competitive game in charge since Michael Keeping against Celta Vigo in February 1948. Stunned.
Simeone is the first Atletico manager to win a final against Real Madrid in three different competitions: Copa del Rey, Supercopa and UEFA Super Cup.
