The United Kingdom through the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Paul Arkwright has applauded the actions of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on yesterday’s siege at the National Assembly.

Mr. Paul Arkwright who said this via his social media handle, applauded the Acting President’s timely intervention to restore order and maintain the rule of law between the Executive and the Legislature. He said the United Kingdom stands with Nigeria with all those supporting Democracy in Nigeria.

On the 2019 elections, he reiterated that free, fair, credible and peaceful elections are critical to Nigeria’s development.
Mr. Paul Arkwright’s statement reads:

“I applaud the action of Professor Osinbajo. The United Kingdom stands with all those supporting democracy in Nigeria.
Free fair credible and peaceful elections in 2019 are critical to this country’s development.”

Acting President Osinbajo who has been receiving praises for his actions yesterday, in condemning the deployment of masked armed Police and Department of Security Service (DSS) operatives who laid siege to the National Assembly and denied lawmakers access to the complex, and consequently the sacking of the Director General of the DSS, had issued this statement:

As a start, I have directed that the appointment of the DG of the DSS, Mr. Lawal Daura be terminated.

He has been directed to hand over to the most Senior Officer in the State Security Service.
The unauthorized takeover of the NASS complex today is a gross violation of the rule of law and all acceptable notions of law and order.
Persons within the law enforcement apparatus who participated in this travesty will be identified and subjected to disciplinary action.”
