The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki a few minutes ago, confirm the house arrest of the Senate Deputy President Ike Ekweremadu at his Abuja residence.

The Senate President who faced a similar incident while leaving his house this morning, on suspicion of a defection of some members of the red chamber, said Senator Ike Ekweremadu’s seat is empty because he is being held under siege.

After reading out the names of defected members of the All Progressive Congress, to the Peoples Democratic Party and others, the Senate President brought the attention of his colleagues to the absence of Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu. He said:

“As you know the seat of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu is absent. He cannot get out of his house. He is being held under siege.” He said.

He continued by also letting them know about his own experience while trying to leave his house, saying:

“This morning I could not also leave my street as well because some people believed today’s seating must not hold because some members want to move or defect.”
“As we are speaking, our Deputy Senate President cannot leave the house. We must save this democracy. People have a free association. They can even move tomorrow. I am sitting here and 16 members have decamped or defected from one party to another and there has been no siege.”

”I don’t believe that this should come to this level where people would be laid under siege for something that is personal to them.”

On the return of the Senator representing Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye after his alleged assassination attempt, welcomed him and prayed he survive the attack.
“Senator Dino Melaye, we are happy that you are back and safe and I thank God for your life. As you have described, it has been a very horrific situation and we will continue to ensure that we protect ourselves and you in this journey.”
