Otedola Tanker Explosion: Lagos State Move For Full Enforcement Of Traffic Laws

Following the tragic incident of Thursday 28th June 2018, last week at the Otedola bridge,along Lagos/ Ibadan expressway, that saw a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of fuel exploded with at least about 9 lives lost, with 54 vehicles burnt, the Lagos state government in collaboration with the police are now going to total enforcement of the state traffic laws.

The Lagos State Government officials who also spoke about a possible prosecution of those responsible for the accident, said plans are already underway to bring both the owners and driver of the ill-fated fuel tanker to justice. This the state government explains in a statement released online. The statement as released said:

“Lagos State Government is perfecting plans to prosecute the owner and driver of the ill-fated fuel tanker which exploded last Thursday on Otedola Bridge inward Ojodu Berger along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway”

On safety measures, the Government warn residents of gathering in an accident scene, as that could be putting their own lives at risk, as such as what happened last week, there could be a second explosion. They caution citizens of converging and allow those trained and adequately equipped to do the job to take control of the accident scene. The Statement continued:
“Residents are also urged to always refrain from converging on the scene of an accident of such magnitude as that of the unfortunate tanker fire incident, saying there could be a secondary explosion which could lead to loss of lives.”

“Families who lost their loved ones to the Otedola Bridge accident have started reporting at the Lagos State DNA Forensic Centre for submission of reference samples that would be used to identify victims.
Orders security agencies to step up enforcement of traffic law, as ACP allays fears over a renewed threat of militancy in Epe, Ikorodu axis.”
