President Muhammadu Buhari aftermath of the deadly killings in several communities in Plateau State where over 100 persons were reported killed and properties razed to the ground by suspected gunmen, has condemned the attack, as he assures the people of the state and Nigerians in general, that those behind the heinous act will be brought to justice.
The President who calls for calm and cautioned on reprisal attacks, said both the Nigerian Military, the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies have been ordered to look into the killings and take necessary actions.
Meanwhile, the killings in Plateau according to reports, happened on Sunday afternoon, in different communities in the state, from Gashish district to Gindin Akwati and Gana-Ropp, Shonong and Razat, Ruku, Nghar, Tanabu, Tisan, Kakuruk. All these towns and districts as it is being reported were all raided by suspected gunmen who in their hundreds attacked and killed whoever they could see on sight, as they turned the towns into a war zone.
Since the incident, the State Government in order to forestall further killing of innocent lives, has since imposed curfew in both Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Jos South were the crisis are presently happening.
According to another report, the killings actually started since Friday, up to Sunday afternoon and the number of death could possibly rise to 200, as the Jos Teaching Hospital are still reaching injured victims, and cannot tell the actual number of death so far.
Also, most worship centres on Sunday morning were closed due to fear that the gunmen could come into the worship centres and attack worshipers.
The President Saddened by this latest killings, has taken to his social media page to release a statement condemning the event, as he assures the Governor, Simon Lalong of Federal Government backing while appealing for calm as everything will be done to make sure those behind the deadly act are brought to justice. He said:
The grievous loss of lives & property arising from the killings in Plateau today is painful and regrettable. My deepest condolences to the affected communities. We will not rest until all murderers and criminal elements and their sponsors are incapacitated and brought to justice.
The President appeals for calm, and assures that no efforts will be spared to bring the perpetrators to justice, and prevent a recurrence / reprisal attacks. The President and the entire Federal Government stand with the Government and people of Plateau at this sad time. Nigerian Army and Nigerian Police are supporting the determined efforts of Governor Simon Lalong to end the attacks and bring relief to affected communities.
