The was an attempted coup at the Nigerian Senate today, as some unidentified hoodlums allegedly led by a Senator from Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege disrupted this morning plenary to snatch away the symbol of authority in the Senate, which is the Mace. The suspended Senator was said to have escaped all security checks with his boys to gain entrance to the Senate Chamber where the commotion started, as some members tried in vain to stop the hoodlums from going away with the Mace.
Though the Senate which was chaired by Deputy Senate President have since gone into an executive session, but the red chamber have described the incident as an attempted coup on a Legislature and condemned Senator Omo-Agege for his act.
The released statement condemning the act reads:
Today, some hoodlums led by suspended Senator
@OvieOmoAgege walked into the Senate plenary and seized the symbol of authority of the Upper Legislative Chamber, the mace.
