PHOTO: The Nigerian Army Intercepts 20 Militia Herdsmen In Benue State

The Nigerian Army has released a report that Troops intercepted some group of militia herdsmen in Benue state, numbering about twenty. The statement which suggests that the militia on sighting the men of the Nigerian Army decided to engage, and in doing so, four of them were intercepted while others after being overpowered by the superior force of the troops decided to escape through the forest leaving their arms and other charms.

This news is coming just a few days after the Nigerian Police reported that four of their men were killed by some group of militia Herdsmen in Benue, as security forces grapple to nip the crisis between farmers and herdsmen in the bud. But the Police public relation officer in the State has given the public the assurance that the police and other security agencies are doing everything within their powers to make sure they apprehend those behind the deadly act. This news now by the Nigerian Army, could be a good news for the Police and the People of Benue state who have been on the receiving end of the crisis.

In a statement released online, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, Brigadier Texas Chukwu, praised the Troops of 72 division for their gallantry and unrelenting fight to make sure the herdsmen menace are brought to an end, said the reports are from the operations carried out between 16th and 18th of April 2018, as they continue to make sure lasting peace returns to the country as a whole. The statement reads:

Troops of 72 Special Forces Battalion on 16 April 18 on Operation MESA at Yogbo in Guma Local Government Area of Benue state encountered about 20 militia herdsmen at Teguma village while on patrol.

Four of the militia herdsmen were neutralized during the encounter while others fled following superior gun power. Items recovered include four AK 47 rifles, five 7.62mm rounds of ammunition and 28 rounds of 7.62 police special ammunition.

The Nigerian Army wishes to restate its commitment and  determination to rid the country of  criminals and enemies of state.
