The National Youth Leaders of the major opposition political party in Nigeria, Peoples Democratic Party has taken to the ‘Wakanda’ theme to promote what they call ‘Rebuilding Youth Consciousness in Nigeria’. The National Youth Leader Mr Udeh Okoye and other of his group, were pictured in Green, White and Red Berets, as they kick start the new movement, which they said was aimed at ‘retaking power’ from the All Progressive Congress led government come 2019.

Berets which are mostly associated with confraternity or a form of Rebel movement, has since become fashionable. Since the formation of popular social movement/Political Party ‘Black Panther‘ by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton in 1966 in America the use of berets, suddenly became popular amongst civil activist fighting for social justice, using the black beret as their symbol. This was way back in the 1960’s before the making of an all black Hollywood box office record breaking movie ‘Black Panther’ further reignited the love for berets, with mostly African-America and African youths now adding it to their fashion apparel.
This too, the Youth Wing of the PDP have adopted, to promote their agenda as the general elections of 2019 draws close. But in their case, they opted for the party flag colours for their own designs, at the ongoing meeting at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja. But the question still remains…can the PDP present a credible and generally accepted candidate like what APC did in 2015 in person of the present President, President Buhari to take over power? 2019 clearly cannot come soon enough for us to know….
