Kelly Osbourne broke down in tears during her first TV interview since the passing of her Black Sabbath legend dad Ozzy, as she opened up about the tributes to him across Birmingham, Daily Mail reports.
Kelly Osbourne, 41, struggled to hold back her emotions as she spoke about Ozzy, who passed away in July after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, after the rocker was posthumously honoured by his home town.
On what would have been his 77th birthday, Ozzy was awarded the city’s highest civic honour the Lord Mayor’s Award, by Deputy Lord Mayor Ken Wood.
In a pre-recorded interview shown on BBC Breakfast on Thursday, Kelly Osbourne broke down in tears as she revealed what the honour meant to her family and shared her struggle with grief.
She said: ‘The fact that he has been recognised in such a way means so much to us because he loved this city, he loved Birmingham, he was a true Brummie through and through, and to be recognised in this way, it’s incredible.
‘He worked so hard to do what he wanted to do most in this and that was perform one more time and then he was ready to go. He made a mark on this planet that will never be erased.’
Starting to cry, Kelly continued: ‘It actually has been horrific. I’ve never ever felt anything like grief. I never realised that you could love someone so much.’
The report on BBC Breakfast detailed how ‘tens of thousands’ of fans took to the streets of Birmingham Ozzy’s coffin travelled through Birmingham after his death.
Kelly Osbourne reacted: ‘I’ll never forget it, as long as I live. The feeling of love that we felt for my father on the day of the procession, it still blows my mind.
‘Everybody that showed up, and every letter of condolence, the outpouring of love, has helped us so much because we’re not going through this alone.’
The Osbournes star also revealed her late father’s reaction to his final concert, which took place in Villa Park in Birmingham, in July 2025.
‘I can tell you what he said afterwards,’ she added. ‘He turned around to my mum and said, I didn’t realise people liked me that much.
‘He was the boy from Aston the entire time, he never realised just how incredible he really was. He went out doing what he loved most in this world.
‘What he wanted to do before he left this planet was say thank you to his fans and have one more show, and he put on one hell of a show.’
On Wednesday, an emotional Sharon and Kelly Osbourne accepted the Lord Mayor’s Award in memory of Ozzy in Birmingham on Wednesday.
Sharon, 73, was presented with the honour by councillor Ken Wood, while Kelly fought back tears.
The Lord Mayor’s Award is an honour presented by a city’s Lord Mayor to recognize outstanding contributions to the community.
Fans laid flowers at Black Sabbath Bench on Broad Street in the city, with the family paying tribute in a note.
It read: ‘We love you Daddy, Love Louis, Aimee, Kelly and Jack’.
The singer, who sold more than 100 million records, will forever be synonymous with the heavy metal band he formed in his home city of Birmingham in 1969.
With hits that included Iron Man, War Pigs and Paranoid, Black Sabbath’s pushing of occult themes proved both hugely popular and controversial, with a future pope even condemning Osbourne for his ‘subliminal satanic influence’.
Earlier in the day, Sharon paid tribute to Ozzy as she said: ‘I will never let go of your hand until I see you on the other side.’
Sharing a post on Instagram, Sharon, who was married to him for 43 years, added: ‘My darling husband, I celebrate the day you were born.’
Daughter Kelly also remembered her father, writing in a post on Instagram showing him smiling next to a birthday cake, with the caption: ‘Happy birthday I miss you daddy! I love you more than life itself!’
Hours earlier, the 41-year-old shared a post that showed her sitting on the Black Sabbath bench in Birmingham, surrounded by floral tributes dedicated to her father.
She wrote: ‘Happy birthday daddy you most certainly did not die an ordinary man! Life without you is hard but not a day goes by that I don’t dedicate my life to loving you and your legacy!
‘I miss you more than anything in the world. I love you until eternity! What I would not give to watch you blow out just one more candle.’
Kelly’s brother Jack, 40, is currently a contestant on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here.
The TV star posted a picture of them as children on her Instagram stories, saying: ‘I can’t lie today is really hard without my brother. I would give anything to just be able to talk to him! However he needs to keep kicking b**t in the jungle!’
Jack has spoken about his late father while in the while in the jungle as viewers saw him become emotional after he had a ‘delicate day’ when he was reminded it was four months since the death of the Black Sabbath frontman.
